CPS AGM – 3rd December 2016


CPS 24th AGM – 3rd  December 2016 at 11 a.m. Hastingleigh

Dear Member

This is to invite you to our 24th AGM and Christmas Party, which will be a way of marking the beginnings of the group’s 25th Anniversary Celebrations.

Please make a note of the date and come and enjoy a social day catching up with members, sharing work, using the opportunity to purchase items, eating well and participating in the 24th  AGM. This year we have a guest speaker in the afternoon – Michael Rust.

You will be able to renew your membership (£15) and book workshops for 2017.

There is a new system this year for booking workshops – the committee will meet immediately after the AGM and allocate the workshop booking requests. So you need to  bring your completed booking form with you together with the money OR post the form together with  a cheque to Meg Chapman (details at the bottom of the form) by Friday 2nd December. You will be notified of the outcome of your application at the beginning of the New Year.

Frances has served her three terms as Chair and then agreed at the last AGM to extend this to a 4th term (as per the Constitution/Rules of CPS). She cannot and does not want to continue. We thank her for all her dedicated and hard work in this role. So we need a new chair and I would ask you all to think carefully about this position.

Naoko and Janet are willing to continue for another year but have to be re-elected annually.

Other committee members (Meg, Sue, Steve, Rosie) all have one more year in office however, you may wish to volunteer to be on the committee at the AGM itself or nominate someone as a committee member who may not be able to attend; in which case you will need to bring a completed ‘Nomination for committee’ form (please check that the person you are nominating wishes to stand!). If you are interested in joining the committee, please feel free to contact any member of the committee to discuss the role with you (we do have written Job Descriptions available on the website).

We shall require several people to help with the CLAS Regional Day we are hosting in Canterbury in 2017 and this will be an exhibition of our work as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. Steve will be explaining more about this.

There will be an exhibition table for members to bring and display work and examples of the CPS Envelope Exchange 2016 work compiled by Rosie Griggs. Please bring a label for your work on display (name and title is all that is required).

There will be a Bring and Buy table for members to sell calligraphic books, art materials and anything else – maybe home made goods. If you bring an item to sell please put a ticket with the item together with your name and the price required in order to make this a simple process.

Something new for this year is a Christmas raffle – proceeds of this will help toward the financing of our 25th Anniversary. There will be two raffles – one with calligraphic contents and the other a general raffle (£1 per strip). Raffle tickets are held by committee members and I’m sure you’ll be asked to support this at one of the workshops.

Some of our calendars showing examples of Renaissance letters will be on sale but there will be pre-order forms available before the AGM and your pre-ordered calendars will be available to pick up as will your copy of the winter CPS newsletter.

We shall be running the CPS Christmas e-card competition again and making this a feature of the AGM, when we can vote for our favourite design. We look forward to receiving your submission.

We are delighted to have a guest speaker in the afternoon – one of our own members, Michael Rust, will be doing a presentation entitled ‘Making a Mark’. So come and see what he has to share with us.

Els and Shirley would like to have a ‘book amnesty’ so please bring any books and/or magazines back you have on loan from either of the two libraries to the AGM (CPS library and Augusto’s library).

The committee will provide mulled wine, soft drinks and puddings so would you please bring a plate of savoury food for a shared table for lunch? We have the use of a microwave should you wish to heat something yourself. Tea and coffee will be available during the day.

We would value your help in helping to set up and clear the hall at the end of the meeting, which ends at 3.00p.m. this year.
