CPS Workshop 24 May 2008 'Lombardic/Mixed Versals' with Janet Mehigan Venue: Evington Village Hall, Hastingleigh
Lombardic Versal Capitals are built-up letters containing several strokes per letter. Used from the middle of the 11th Century, Versals are based on Imperial Roman capitals and are therefore more elegant than Lombardic Capitals which have many of the round letters based on the Uncial hand. Suitable for all levels, these rather ornate letters can be drawn with a calligraphy pen (No 4 nib), pencil or created with a technical pen. They can be coloured or plain; single and richly ornate or as an initial letter blending well with Gothic or other dense heavy writing hand. Colouring with gouache colours and gold or using real gold on PVA or Gesso. |
